Fred. Olsen Windcarrier’s Bold Tern Joins Galloper Installation

4th September 2017

Fred. Olsen Windcarrier has been awarded a contract with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) for the transport and installation of wind turbines on the Galloper Offshore Wind Farm.

Specialist jack-up vessel Bold Tern will mobilise in early September from the Port of Esbjerg, heading to site with a full deck of SWT 6.0-154 turbines before heading to the Port of Hull to continue operations.

The vessel will be joining the project to ensure timely completion and will be on contract for at least 30 days with options.

Fred. Olsen Windcarrier have been able to react quickly to agree the contract and ensure prompt mobilisation within only 6-8 weeks after initial contact. Time and cost for mobilisation have been significantly reduced by reengineering the existing grillage from the Veja Mate installation project, which was completed in the German EEZ earlier this summer.

“This is a perfect demonstration of industry pulling together to advance a positive outcome for a project located on a site which is known to have some challenging characteristics. Fred. Olsen Windcarrier is looking forward to bringing our experience and capabilities to the project, working with the local supply chain in the East of England” said Martin Degen, Commercial Manger, Fred. Olsen Windcarrier.

Galloper Offshore Wind Farm is being constructed approximately 30km off the coast of Suffolk, and upon completion will power up to 336,000 average UK households.
